SGPC holds akhand path for Vajpayee:
The bhog of an akhand path arranged by the SGPC for a fast recovery of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister, was performed here today.
The SGPC said the akhand path was started on February 8. Hajoori Raagi Bhai Inderjit Singh Mumbai Wale performed the Gurbani kirtan while ardas was made by Bhai Surjit Singh.

:Nearly six thousand students appeared in the mock test organised by the Harbhajan Institute at several places in Punjab on  Sunday.

NGO submits details:
NGO Resurgence today filed certified details of criminal cases pending against police personnel, including those on deputation with the Punjab police.
Referring to the cases in which the inquiry was still incomplete, the petitioner named retired and serving officers, including SS Virk, KK Attri, Mohd. Izhar Alam, GD Pandey, Ravinder Paul Singh, SC Jain, DR Bhatti and RC Prasad. Regarding criminal cases in which inquiry was complete, but case was pending in the Court, the petitioner named Sumedh Singh Saini and HS Randhawa.

Cong ticket sought
: The district unit of INTUC would urge the Congress high command for allotting party ticket to its state unit secretary Dilbagh Singh Sidhu from the Hoshiarpur (reserved) Lok Sabha seat in the forthcoming elections. The district unit held a meeting of the executive committee here today in which it was decided to send a deputation of the state INTUC unit headed by its President Dr Subhash Sharma to meet the Congress high command on the issue.

Youth killed in accident:
A youth was killed in a road accident here today.
Mohd Ismail (24), a resident of Lohara Wala, was killed on the spot when his motor cycle fell into a sewer dump near Mana Wala Phatak. A case has been registered.



Lecture: A special lecture was delivered on “Dynamics of globalisation” by an eminent sociologist Prof SL Sharma in the University School of Open Learning here on Tuesday. Prof Sharma discussed the role of information technology and market integration in the unionisation of world society. 

Elected: The members of 1st Eco Friendly Sports Organisation were elected in a meeting here on Monday at New Public School, Sector 18. The elected members as governing body are RD Singh- president; Vivek Lakahnpal- general secretary; Rakesh Kumar-treasurer; Rakesh Gupta, Sanjay Kaushal and Shiv K Gupta as executive members. 



Official held for HM links:
A Jammu and Kashmir Rural Development Department employee, identified as Ghulam Hassan of Shagla Koti, has been arrested for having links with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit in Doda district, police sources here on Tuesday said. The accused was apprehended on Monday evening when he was on way to meet Hizbul militant in Doda. A case has been registered against him.

Police to recruit 5,000 youths:Around 5,000 young men in the state will be recruited for five Indian Reserve Battalions being raised in the state. “The recruitment drive for constables and others jobs have been started to raise five IRP battalions,” police officials said, adding that the district-wise applications for the posts have been invited from Tuesday.

One strangulated to death:
The body of a 25-year-old youth, identified as Fida Hussain Bhat, was found in a three-wheeler on the outskirts of the city, official sources said. Bhat of Habbakadal area was found dead in an auto rickshaw at Shariefabad bridge on Tuesday morning. Initial investigations reveal strangulation to be the cause of Bhat’s death and a case has been registered.
