Phone cables snapped by mistake

Due to wrong cables cut by contractor of Powergrid Corporation at Feroze Gandhi Market here last evening, the entire network of telephone companies, including Reliance, Tata, Airtel, BSNL, etc went haywire. The telephone vendors said their network was affected throughout the city.

GADVASU gets Rs 6.75 cr for building three hospitals
Ludhiana, February 15
For providing latest treatment to animals, both big and small, the state government recently announced a grant of Rs 6.75 crore to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). With the money, three new hospitals with latest infrastructure, including diagnostic labs, X-Ray facilities, ultrasound examination and well-equipped surgical procedures, will come up so that more animals could get state-of-the-art treatment.

Ex-serviceman forced to sell household goods for treatment
Ludhiana, February 15
The family of Sadhu Ram Sharma, an ex-serviceman of nearby Kanganwal village who was discharged on medical grounds by the Army in 1969, is forced to sell his household goods and valuables to continue his treatment at a tertiary medical institute, as the hospital authorities have refused to register the patient under the ECHS without valid card, which has been reported lost.

Upset over persistent harassment by drug enforcement authorities over sale of habit-forming (addictive) drugs, the chemists from the entire state today decided to observe Punjab bandh on March 18, and follow it up with stoppage of sale of all scheduled drugs thereafter if the government failed to evolve an effective mechanism to resolve the issue.

Proclaimed offender nabbed
Mullanpur Dakha, February 15
Humbran police has nabbed a proclaimed offender who jumped bail six years ago. Jagdev Singh S/o Laxman Singh of Aliwal village was booked under section 380 by the Humbran Police in 2000. He was wanted by the police who jumped bail about six years ago.

3 die in accidents
