VAT Refunds: Excise dept yet to return Rs 95 cr

The Ludhiana (Rural) police has initiated the process for getting the production warrants of Hardip Singh Deol of Gurdev Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, a swindler, who has been arrested by the economic offence wing of the Ludhiana police and is wanted in connection with a case registered under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC at the Dehlon police station.

Despite restriction, MC demolishes road
Jagraon, January 22
The contractor who had got the tenders passed in his name started demolition of the concrete road in Shastri Nagar near Kanya Pathshala laid by Municipal Council here. The road was laid about a year ago after Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave a grant of Rs 3 crore to the MC, Jagraon.

Nine booked for assaulting 3 women
Jagraon, February 22
Nine persons have been booked for assaulting three women of Hathoor, a few days ago. In the complaint lodged with the Hathoor SHO Bhajan Kaur stated that she owned a kanal plot in which a family used to live in a room within its boundary.

Seminar on hair transplantation

A seminar-cum-free medical checkup camp for hair transplantation was conducted by Dr Aman Dua at his clinic. About 47 cases of hair fall were checked at the camp in which tips regarding prevention of hair fall were given to patients.

"Fashion parade with Bollywood" was the theme of the fashion show organised by International Institute of Glamour and Life Style Studies at Nirvana Club yesterday evening. The evening started with a dance performance by Star Vaar participant Harneet Taneja. Arvind's song ‘dekha jo tujhe yaar dil mein baje guitar’ enthraled the audience. Nine killed in road mishaps 
Ludhiana, February 22
It was a fatal Saturday for city residents. At least nine persons lost their lives in incidents that took place yesterday.

Two arrested with smack 
Khanna, February 22
The Khanna police arrested two people with smack from different localities of the city yesterday. The accused have been identified as Joginder Singh and Sunil Kumar. While Joginder was arrested from Galwaddi T-point with 5-gm smack, Sunil was arrested near AS College, Khanna with 10-gm smack. Cases have been registered against both the accused in this connection and they were produced before the magistrate.—TNS

Youth commits suicide
Ludhiana, February 22
A youth allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a speeding train at a level-crossing near Islam Gunj here yesterday. Accrording to the police, the youth identified as Gurbir Singh was suffering from depression. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. — TNS
