Overspeeding cars spell trouble

Two cases of rash driving in the city caused trouble for residents during the past 24 hours. In the first incident, an overspeeding BMW car belonging to Karan Dua, a resident of Pakhowal, rammed into a traffic signal poll near Circuit House late last night.

PSEB sticks to its word

After making several promises of providing uninterrupted power but without keeping them in the past, the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB), for once, remained true to its word of imposing no power cuts throughout the state from March 1.

PAU ‘allows’ parties, DJ on campus

The PAU campus is being used for holding marriage/birthday parties these days. Though get-togethers, ceremonies by faculty members or employees have been organised at places like faculty clubs or community centers till recently, parties in open lawns of the campus by putting large tents and playing DJ till late hours were never allowed by authorities earlier.

Anganwadi workers block traffic
Samrala, March 1
Anganwadi workers of the area today held a dharna in front of the Samrala DSP office for about four hours and blocked traffic on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road to protest against the alleged failure of the police to arrest the in-laws of an anganwadi worker despite registration of a criminal case.

Wife dies as couple stab each other
Ludhiana, March 1
A domestic quarrel turned bloody when a husband and a wife allegedly stabbed each other at Nidhan Singh Nagar near Civil City last night. While the wife, Santosh Rani (47), died on the spot, the husband, Surinderpal (50), was rushed to the DMCH where his condition is stated to be critical.

18-yr-old killed in road mishap
Khamano, March 1
Rajdeep Singh (18), a resident of Ambemajra village, under the Gobindgarh police station, died after his car rammed into a tree near Suncity Colony on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh Road.

Teachers to go indefinite strike from March 6 
Doraha, March 1
Teachers of all universities, government and private-aided colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh will go on an indefinite strike from March 6 onwards. They will also observe 72-hour bandh from March 3, which will continue till March 6. After this the teachers would go an indefinite strike.

Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, MP, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Kohara-Jandiali- Ramgarh road, on which a total amount of Rs 40 lakh is to be spent on 3.25 km of stretch.
