Former director of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh, Saji Mohan, who was arrested by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Maharashtra police in January, got a breather after the Jammu and Kashmir police confirmed that the two AK-47 rifles seized from the NCB office were issued by it.

Gurdwara told to check water flow

The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has objected to the waste water disposal from Gurdwara Amb Sahib into the Leisure Valley and asked it to direct the flow into the sewerage system. The waste water from the gurdwara was flowing into a part of the Leisure Valley and emitting foul smell, as it gets collected in a low lying area and creating pollution.

‘Qatra Qatra Zindagi’, a poignant play

Securing an imaginative contrast between the ideal and real life, acclaimed veteran playwright thespian, Devinder Daman, sculpted a thesis in his landmark production ‘Qatra Qatra Zindagi’. The play was staged on the second day of the NZCC-Adakar Manch Theatre Festival at Randhawa Auditorium. It was about those attaining old age with their progeny settled abroad.

Gurukul’s garden adjudged best

The Gurukul, Sector 20, bagged the first prize for the best maintained garden on its campus for the eighth consecutive year in the ongoing ‘Spring Fest-09’, the annual flower festival of Panchkula, organised by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) here today.

Shooting rumour zaps Mongia

Rumours surrounded the city that the former Indian cricketer and ICL player, Dinesh Mongia, was shot at on the Kalka-Pinjore Highway and was later referred to the PGI here today.

The Chandigarh police rounded up 23 suspected persons during an early-morning search operation conducted at Colony No. 5 here today. The police later released the detainees after verifying their antecedents.

The annual convocation of SD College was held here today. Around 702 students, including 52 postgraduates, 649 graduates in arts, science, commerce, computers and information technology were conferred degrees. Man killed as bike hits median

Financier’s Murder
Raju’s mother-in-law arrested
Panchkula, March 5
The local police has arrested Neeru Bain, mother-in-law of Raju, the main accused in the murder case of financier Vinod Mittal and his 4-year-old son Yashan. Other four accused had been arrested by the police from Hanumangarh in Rajasthan last week.

Cash, jewellery stolen
Chandigarh, March 5
Thieves decamped with cash, jewellery and other household articles after breaking into a house in Indira Colony. The police said Rakesh Kumar of Indira Colony alleged that some unidentified persons stole two gas cylinders, a pair of earrings, some silver ornaments and Rs 11,000 in cash from his house, during February 25 in March 3.
