Go organic this Holi

Holi, the festival of colours, gaiety, fun and frolic is associated with Lord Krishna and his Gopis. To play a safe Holi, doctors advocate use of organic colours. One can imagine Lord Krishna mingle with his companions spraying fragrant radiant colours at each other in hues of red, green and pink from flowers like tesu, harsringar, marigold, hibiscus, rose and other organic derivatives.

Board to take action against school
Raikot, March 10
The flying squad from Jagraon yesterday slapped six unfair means case on students of various schools in Jagraon and Raikot. A teacher of SGG Senior Secondary School, Gondwal, was caught while helping students copy.

14 transferred SHOs sent back to police stations

As many as 14 SHOs, who had been sent to the Police Lines following the state Election Commission (EC) notice to SSP Sukhchain Singh Gill ordering transfers of the SHOs, were again sent back to their respective police posts today.

House raided; tax evasion detected 
Mandi Gobindgarh, March 10
A large number of sales tax officials headed by its director today raided a house at Motia Khan locality here. Documents of fake firms and a government stamp were seized.

202 get degrees
Raikot, March 10
As many as 62 postgraduation and 140 graduation degrees were conferred on students during the annual convocation of Swami Ganga Giri Janta Girls College, Raikot, today.

4 lakh to appear in Class V exams
Ludhiana, March 10
More than 4 lakh students will appear in the class V examinations that begin on March 16. The examination is being conducted by the Directorate-General of Schools Education, Punjab, this year under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan wing. Earlier, this examinations were conducted by the Punjab School Education Board.

Multipurpose rural camp ends

A 40-day multipurpose camp organised by PAU, Ludhiana, ended today marking Women’s Day at Chowkiman village. The programme was a joint effort of PAU Ludhiana, Nestle India IFFICO, Gram Panchayat, Tarlochan Singh and Youth Services Club of the Chowkiman village.

Real estate sector continues to reel under recession

There seems to be no turn around in sight for the real estate sector which had nose dived in the mega city as a result of economic meltdown a couple of months back after a pretty long period of boom. There being no buyers for land or built up properties simply because of worst ever liquidity crunch, the market is virtually inactive.

Fixing Salary 
Process unfair, allege ad hoc lecturers

Though the High Court has fixed April 2 as the date of hearing in various contempt petitions and the state government has sought six-week time from January 31 to fix the pay of ad hoc lecturers and pay them pending arrears, the current exercise being undertaken at the office of the DPI (C) may prove to be futile as certain important things have not been taken into account, lecturers feel.
