DIET students to organise rally
:The DIET Students’ Welfare Association, Punjab,  during a meeting held on Thursday night, decided that a rally would take place in Bathinda on March 28. The meeting also decided that a ‘Pole kholo’ march would be carried out in the nearby villages. The members of the association asked the government to release the result of the ETT’s fourth semester without any further delay.

Extension lecture:An extension lecture on the status of women in India was organised at the Dashmesh Girls College of Education, today. Professor N.K. Ojha and Professor R.K. Sharma from Panjab University, Chandigarh were the resource persons. Principal of the college Dr S.S. Sangha honoured the guests with mementoes.

BATHINDA: Dr Jaspal Singh, VC of the Punjabi University, Patiala, released the 'Khamoshi ki maut', a Punjabi poetry book written by Dr Gagandeep Kaur.

Foetus found
: A human foetus was found lying in the drain at Dhamai village on Thursday evening. After taking it in its custody the Garhshankar police has registered a case under section 318 of the IPC.

Motorcyclist killed: Motorcyclist Baldev Singh of Randhawa village was killed and his sister Balbir Kaur and daughter Sandeep Kaur who were riding pillion were wounded when a car (PB-O8-AM-1352) hit the motorcycle (PB-21-D-1458) near Dhoot Kalan on Thuirsday evening. The Hariana police has registered a case under sections 304-A, 279, 427, 337 and 338 of the IPC against car driver Pankaj.

Awareness seminar
: The district legal services authority conducted a legal awareness seminar at the local KCL Institute of Law on Friday. An essay writing competition on women empowerment was also held. Addressing the students District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of the Legal Authority Gurdev Singh told the students about women empowerment.

Power shutdown
:The power will be shut down for maintenance in the Gagandeep Colony, Kailash Nagar, New Kailash Nagar Lakshmi colony , Jaspal Colony, Nanda Colony, New Nanda Colony, Ekta Colony, Preet Vihar,Amrit Vihar, Sant Vihar, Ram Vihar, Bhagwan Vihar tomorrow and on March 15 from 12 to 3 pm.

Car stolen
: A WagonR car was stolen from the house of local businessman Sooraj Kalra on Thursday night. According to Kalra, the construction work of his house was in progress and the vehicle was usally parked outside the gate of the house. Last night he parked WagonR (PB-35-H-5922) outside the house and found it missing in the morning.



Seminar held
: A two-day UGC seminar on ‘Relevance of political science in democratic system with special reference to India’ was organised by Markanda National College, Shahabad Markanda, on Friday. Haryana Staff Selection Commission, member Ashok Jain was the chief guest on the occasion. He highlighted the role of the subject in creating awareness in citizens to recognise his relative importance in the making up of an ideal society and an ideal country.

Man kills son
: Satya Narain (26) was allegedly axed to death by his father Ram Bhagat (62) in Vishva Karma colony at Kosli on Thursday. Critically injured Narain was referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak, where he succumbed to his injuries. Some familial discord is stated to be the reason behind the incident. A case has been registered.

Seminar on Dalit literature: Government College, Ateli, near here, will organise a national seminar on ‘Dalit literature: Challenges and potentialities’ on March 16-17. The seminar will be sponsored by the University Grants Commission. Phateh Singh Dagar, Commissioner, managing director, HSIDC, would be the chief guest. Scholars from various states would participate in the seminar.

Test postponed
: Screening test for the post of demonstrator (tenure basis) in Government Dental College, Rohtak, that was scheduled to be held on 15th March has been postponed till further orders. The next date in this regard would be announced soon,. Sanjay Tiwari, principal of the college, said on Friday.

Undergraduate exams of MDU: Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has announced the dates for annual examination of BCom courses. Examinations of BCom (I) will commence from March 31 till April 28, BCom (II) from April 1 to April 25 and for BCom (III) from March 31 till April 18. According to a spokesperson of the university annual examination of BA- I (distance) will commence from March 21 and for BA-II (distance) from March 22. However, the examinations for BA/BSc-I will be held from March 31 to April 20, for BA/BSc-II from March 31 to April 22 and for BA/BSc-III from April 1 to April 23.

: Official website of the state government, www.himachal.nic.in, constructed and maintained by a team of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), has been adjudged as the “Best website” by editors of the Encyclopedia Britannica. This was stated by JC Miller, director, Editorial Content Management Encyclopedia Britannica, in a communication to the senior informatics officer of the NIC. Miller said the website had been selected as Encyclopedia Britannica iGuide site.

Girl abducted: Three persons, two of them residents of Behal village, allegedly abducted a girl from the house of farmer Ajmer Singh on Thursday. Ajmer has registered an FIR in this regard. He alleged that Naresh and Jinder of their village, accompanied by one another, forcibly entered into their house and beat up all those persons who stopped them. SP Kuldip Sharma said here on Friday that investigations were on and the accused would be soon arrested.

Labourer killed
: One labourer was killed and another injured when boulders falling from a hillside reportedly hit them on Thursday. The incident took place when they were working on a private hydel project, near Loona, on the Chamba-Bharmour highway. The deceased has been identified as Chaman and the injured as Ram Bahadur. A case has been registered in this regard.

Two-day workshop
: The Electrical Engineering Department of the National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, is organising a two-day workshop on “Power transformer design and monitoring” from March 14 to 15. Chairman of the department Prof RN Sharma said nearly 40 delegates from the HPSEB, Satluj Jal Vikas Nigam and experts from Madras, Bombay and BHEL would attend the workshop.

Body found: The police found a body in the forest of Shashan Badehra under the Nadaun police station on Thursday, which has been identified as that of Kishori Lal (50) of Shashan Badehra village. Police sources said Ajeet Pal, son of the deceased, had registered a complaint that his father had gone for a haircut on the morning of March 9 and was missing since then. Meanwhile, Lekh Raj, president of the Majheli Gram Panchayat, reported to the police about finding a dead body in the forest. The police has registered a case in this regard.

House gutted: A house and cowshed were burnt to ashes in Dadoh village on Friday. Police sources said the fire started from the cowshed of Amin Chand and soon engulfed his house too. An estimated loss of about Rs 6 lakh has been reported in this incident. SDM Naduan has asked the Revenue Department to prepare a report of total loss and also gave Rs 10,000 as an immediate relief.

Election arrangements
: District Returning Officer (DRO) Amar Singh Rathore held a meeting to review the election arrangements on Friday. He informed that checking of EVMs would be held in Shimla and Theog in the first phase between March 16 to 23. Rehearsal for the first phase of polling would be held between April 7 to 10, he added. He directed assistant returning officers to complete all election-related arrangements well on time.

Test cancelled: A written test for the post of AE (IT) in the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd scheduled for March 14 has been cancelled. A spokesperson for the HPCC said that this had been done in view of the election code of conduct.
