Auto driver alleges torture, cops deny

A 25-year-old autorickshaw driver of the local Tajpur Road has alleged third degree police torture by the CIA-II wing of the police. Sonu Verma, the alleged victim, who used to drive a hired auto rickshaw, was brutally beaten up by CIA-II in charge Dilpreet Singh after the auto rickshaw was stolen. He sustained serious injuries on his legs.

Cultivators stage dharna

Hundreds of cultivators in the Bet area of the district staged dharna in front of Mini Secretariat here today. They were demanding ownership rights of land under their possession and on the spot mutations in the revenue record.
