Malhotra bags 55 vends while both get 45
Ludhiana, March 20
Breaking the stronghold of the liquor baron Garcha group and the Ponty Chadha group in the region, D Malhotra today bagged the maximum number of liquor vends in the city as the draw of lots for liquor vends held here today. Malhotra managed to bag 11 units (55 vends) while they could only stake a claim on nine units (45 vends).

Accused of wrongly identifying slain terrorist

A former SHO of the Sidhwan Bet police station has finally been booked at that very police station in which he ruled during the black days of Punjab. Darshan Singh, SHO, was booked under Sections 218, 219,465 and 471 of the IPC for wrongly identifying a terrorist who along with three others were killed in an encounter with a police party headed by him.

The MC and city residents have locked horns over the issue of installation of gates on roads and public streets as the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has been accused of maintaining "double standards" over the issue. While the civic body has removed some of the gates for which it has received complaints, most of them are flourishing right under the Municipal Corporation's nose which raise a question on the policy being adopted by the civic body.

The Municipal Corporation today removed gates on a street in Udham Nagar this afternoon, while the tension gripped Kitchlu Nagar as residents of the area didn't allow civic body officials to remove the gate. However, pillars in the same street of Kitchlu Nagar were demolished.
