The women employees in the public sector can heave a sigh of relief with the district election office has decided to exempt women from poll duties and spare them of the inconvenience at the polling stations.

'Tainted' officials put on job

Even as the Punjab State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has given a month's time to the Department of Local Government to complete the inquiry by a PCS officer in the alleged irregularities in allotment of plots by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) to locally displaced persons (LDPs) since April, 2007, many heads are expected to roll once the truth comes out in the scam of alarming proportions.

A farmer of Bhikhi village in Ludhiana district was arrested by Dehlon police for illegally possessing 100 g of opium. He was booked under the NDPS Act.


Inter-zonal handball tourney from March 25

The 13th edition of the All-India Inter-Zonal Handball Championship for men and women will be organised by the Punjab Handball Association (PHA) at the Punjab Agricultural University campus grounds from March 25 to 28. A number of international players will be seen in action during this four-day meet.
