Two persons, including a child, were injured after being hit by a speeding car being driven by a school student near BRS Nagar here this morning. Angry residents chased the vehicle and managed to nab the boy near I-block of BRS Nagar. They beat up the boy and also damaged the vehicle.

Dr Pam Rajput, executive director of the Women Resource and Advocacy Centre, Chandigarh, has been appointed to probe into the sexual harassment case by the Punjab Agricultural University.

Anti-tuberculosis medicine regimen treatment- DOTS is as effective as other regimens which is made available free at every RNTCP treatment centre of India. This was highlighted at CME on “pulmonary and extra pulmonary tuberculosis” organised by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ludhiana, as one of the events in the ongoing anti-TB awareness campaign on ‘World TB Day-2009’ at IMA, Ludhiana.

Cardiac facilities upgraded at CMCH

Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, under its rejuvenated cardiac programme has pioneered in “endovascular surgery”. The institute is the only one in the region to have started with this procedure, which was performed by Dr Harinder Singh Bedi, head of cardio-vascular surgery.

1,000 examined at health camp

As many as 1,000 patients were examined during a medical and dental camp organised by the CMCH in association with Abhishek Industries Ltd at Raikot road in Barnala district. A team of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff examined patients under medicine, eye, dental, ENT, paediatrics, gynaecology, cardiology, urology OPDs.

Special counters for filing tax returns

With the last date for filing income tax returns just round the corner and queues of tax payers growing longer with each passing day, the Income Tax department has decided to set up special counters on the premises of the department. The counters will be set up on March 28 and 29 from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm and on March 30 from 9.30 am to 4 pm. A counter will also be set up on the last day of filing income tax returns on March 31 from 9.30 am to 8 pm. —TNS
