Hisar, April 23
Three brothers were today sentenced to death by a local court on a charge of committing murders. The wives of the three convicts and their uncle were sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case.

The three brothers are Harjinder, Yadvendra and Bhupendra. Their wives have been identified as Balvinder, Rajvinder and Sukhvinder. The uncle is named Jagpal Singh.

The family of the convicts had sold 12.5 acres in Beed Babran village, near here, to two brothers Rajvir and Ramesh about two years ago. However, before the deed could be registered, the land prices rose sharply.

Consequently, the three brothers refused to get the deed registered following which Rajvir and Ramesh filed a suit in a civil court. They won the case in January last year against which the convicts went in appeal to a higher court.

However, before the appeal could be decided, the three brothers, along with their wives and an uncle, allegedly murdered Rajvir and Ramesh while they were working in their fields on April 18 last year.

An aunt of the deceased, Shakuntala, was also killed. An uncle, Karamvir, and a niece, Renu, were seriously hurt, but lived to tell the tale.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Bimlesh Tanwar today handed the sentence to the convicts.
