K’taka CM latest victim of shoe attack
Blames Deve Gowda for it

Davanagere (Karnataka), April 28
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa today became the latest victim of footwear attacks on politicians, but refused to pardon the “culprit” and blamed former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and his sons for the incident.

“Devegowda and his sons are behind the incident. I cannot be scared by such tactics. People will teach them a lesson,” a fuming Yeddyurappa said hours after the incident, which took place in Chennarayapatna in Gowda’s home district of Hassan.

“This is not an insult to me. It is an insult to the people of the state,” Yeddyurappa pointed out.

A man identified as Chandrasekhar threw his chappal at Yeddyurappa at an election rally when the Chief Minister accused JD-S leader Gowda, who is contesting from the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, of being a ‘betrayer’ for not transferring power to BJP as per the power sharing accord in 2007.

The chappal, however, fell short of the target, the police said adding they could not immediately confirm whether the man was a JD-S sympathiser.

Chandrasekhar, hailing from Kodihalli in Hassan District, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody, becoming the first to be arrested in the string of footwear-flinging incidents across the country in recent weeks, beginning with the one involving Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Yeddyurappa said action against the culprit would be taken as per the law and declared “there is no excuse to him”. — PTI
