: Four students of MBA fourth semester have been shortlisted by the Bajaj Alliance Insurance Co for regular posts from the nearby Cordia Institute of Business Management, Sanghol, on Saturday. The interviews were held by company officials. All the students of this batch have got placements in various organisations. This is the first passout batch of the institute.

PSEB lineman electrocuted:
PSEB lineman Rakesh Kumar died of an electric shock while repairing a transformer near village Jhoke Harihar here today. Rakesh was brought to the Civil Hospital for treatment but he could not survive. He had gone to village to attend a repair call.

Counting agents: District Election Officer Vikas Gupta has asked counting agents to deposit their photo form with the assistant election officer of the assembly segment concerned by 5 pm on May 12. He said all candidates would ensure to submit forms of their counting agents in the stipulated time as only those agents would be allowed to enter the counting hall who would have valid photo identity cards.

Two killed in road mishap: Two persons were killed as the tanker, in which they were travelling in, rammed into another tanker parked on the roadside near Liberty Chowk on Saturday. The tanker was coming from Delhi could not spot the other tanker as its parking lights were not on. Deceased were identified as Dalbeer Singh (driver) and Manjit Singh (cleaner), both residents of Jagral village in Jalandhar district. The police has registered a case against driver of the truck Surjit Singh, a resident of Delhi, for parking the vehicle without any indicators.

Dowry death: A case of dowry death was registered in the Assandh police station on the complaint of Man Chand who alleged that her daughter Mangeeta Devi (24), married to Praveen Kumar of Salvan village, was set on fire by her husband Praveen, father-in-law Ajiab Singh, mother-in-law Madnagla Devi, brother-in-law Azaad Singh on Wednesday. He said his daughter was being continuously tortured for dowry by her husband and in-laws. Mangeeta succumbed to burn injuries on Friday. The accused have been booked.

Scientist commits suicide: A scientist of the NDRI hanged himself at his residence in Sector 13 here on Saturday. Deceased Charan Singh Solanki, in his early sixties, was a patient of diabetes. A case has been registered.

Threat to poll agent: 3 held: The Kho police has arrested three persons, Sharwan Kumar, Vikram Singh and Azad Singh Yadav of Dhawana village, all reportedly supporters of the INLD, on charges of causing hurt and threatening Vinod Yadav, who was working as a polling agent of the Congress candidate at a booth of Dhawana village on Thursday. They were produced in the court of JMIC Vivek Goyal who remanded them in judicial custody on Saturday. Earlier, on a complaint filed by Vinod, the police had registered a case against the trio.

20 villagers booked: The Kasaula police has booked Suresh Kumar, Bir Singh, Mangal Singh and seventeen others, all residents of Sangwari village, on charges of rioting, unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint and disobedience to order promulgated by a senior public servant. A case has been registered against them in this regard. Seeking relief from persistently erratic water supply in Sangwari village, irate residents had resorted to blockade causing disruption of vehicular traffic on the Delhi-Jaipur highway on Friday.

Environment: The Haryana Environmental Management Society on Saturday organised an awareness programme on the procedures and precautions required for handling hazardous waste, its treatment and disposal to be taken by the industry before it was handed over to Gujrat Environ Protection and Infrastructure (Haryana) Pvt Ltd. Chairman of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board Dr A S Chahal said the facility for disposal of hazardous waste was a requirement under the Central Pollution Control Board rules.

Woman dies in mishap:
A Kashmiri woman was killed when a bus hit her in the Muthi area here this morning. Reports said, 65-year-old Rani Bhan, a resident of Migrantsí Camp in Muthi, was hit by a speeding bus near the Muthi Camp Pulli around 11.15 am. However, the bus driver fled. The police impounded the bus later. Meanwhile, Durga Devi, who had sustained severe burn injuries after a LPG cylinder had caught fire in her house in RS Pura, died in a Ludhiana hospital today.

CRPF jawan consumes poison, dies: A CRPF jawan, who allegedly consumed poison at his Kulian village  residence last night, died here today. Official sources said CRPF jawan Rakesh Kumar, who was posted in Assam, had returned home on leave. They added that Rakesh had a tiff with his mother over some family matter. Infuriated over heated arguments, he allegedly consumed some toxic substance that resulted in his death.

2 killed in forest fire: After the Pauri forest-fire incident that lead to death of as many as 7 persons, another two sisters died in a forest fire at Frasoli-Ghorakhal, 15 km from Nainital headquarters on Saturday. Victims Leela (20), who was eight months pregnant, and her sister Deepa were crossing the forest in the Frasoli Ghoarkhan area when the two got struck midway in a forest fire. While Leela died on the spot, Deepa succumbed to her injuries on the way to a hospital.
