510 blood units collected at camp:
As many as 510 units of blood were donated by devotees of Nirankari Mission in a mass blood donation camp organised at Nirankari Bhavan here on Sunday. Mandal zonal in charge Mahatma A.S. Sandhu said Sant Nirankari Mission was organising 263 donation camps throughout the country annually in which more than 50,000 units of blood were being donated by devotees.

Woman dies after fall from rooftop:
The mother of an eight-month-old baby died this morning after falling from the rooftop of her house. The deceased was identified as Hema Rani (25), wife of Surinder Kumar. According to Hema’s family members, she went upstairs to dry some clothes but fell from the stairs and received serious injuries. She was rushed to the DMC, Ludhiana, where she succumbed to her injuries. Her parents residing in Amritsar were informed and the body was kept in mortuary of the Civil Hospital.

Clash: A bus driver and a conductor of two buses fought with each other over the issue of timings last evening. Kulveer Singh, a driver with the Dhuri Bus Service, fought with another conductor. They both received minor injuries and were rushed to the civil hospital with multiple injuries. A case in this connection has been registered.

Fire in PSEB godown: A fire broke out in the godown of the Punjab State Electricity Board at Bhai Randhi Singh Nagar here today. According to officials of the fire department, the godown had stored around 4,000 to 5,000 gunny bags of cement and wooden planks. The department pressed in Fire Brigade in from Haibowal to douse the flames, and within half an hour the situation was under control. No loss of life or anyone being wounded had been reported.

Clarification: The Ludhiana Stock Exchange in a press note here today denied any meeting in support of Manish Tewari. Rajnish Garg, a member, held the meeting in his personal capacity, the note added.

Mandi Gobindgarh
A meeting of the Punjabi Likhari Sabha, Mandi Gobindgarh, was held under the presidentship of celebrated poet Amir Dhawan in the reading room of the municipal council here today. Writers, including Surjit Singh Marjara, Awtar Singh Chaney, Sanehinder Meelu, Narinder Manku, Jagjit Singh Guram, Ranjit Singh Sandhu, Giani Bachan Singh, Aman Bedard, Harbhajan Singh Newan, Upkar Singh Dayalpuri, Rakesh Kumar, Gurnam Singh Bijli and Mohinder Singh Kainth, presented their poems, songs and ghazals.

Nurses Day:
The Sandhu Institute of Nursing, Mahalon, organised a seminar on “Delivering quality, serving community, nurses leading care innovations” here on Tuesday to mark International Nurses Day. Former Director, health and family welfare, Dr D.P.S. Sandhu was the chief guest. He lauded the role of nurses in serving the ailing humanity. Dr Mohinderjit Kaur Sandhu, Sukhminder Kaur and Navneet Kaur also delivered lectures on the topic.



Nominated: Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian has nominated KL Sharma, MLA from Shahbad, as a member of the Committee on Estimates for the remaining period of 2009-10 on account of vacancy caused by the resignation of Randhir Singh, MLA from Barwala, from its membership. He has also nominated Arjan Singh, MLA from Chhachhrauli, as a member of the Committee on Public Undertakings for the remaining period of 2009-2010 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of KL Sharma. MLA Naresh Kumar Sharma has also been nominated as special invitee to serve on the Committee on Government Assurances with effect from May 12 for the remaining period of 2009-10.

One killed in mishap: Ram Niwas (25) of Bhiwani district and contractual employee with the DHBVN here was killed while two of his colleagues, Rajesh and Surender, residents of Mahendergarh district, were injured when the motorcycle they were riding was reportedly hit by a dumper on the Rewari-Mahendergarh road on Monday. They were on their way to Mahendergarh from Rewari. The police registered a case of negligence against the dumper driver, who fled after the accident.



Water scarcity in Ramnagar:
S. Pathania, who fought the Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Ramnagar, has alleged that the Ramnagar and Majalta areas were reeling under an acute water and power shortage. “In most of the villages in Ramnagar and Majalta tehsils, drinking water supply has been impaired for the past many weeks.” Pathania said. He also demanded a degree college and an ITI at Majalta.

Urs concludes:
One-day Urs Sharief of Syed Walayat Ali Shah Bukhari concluded at Surankote in Poonch district. Hundreds of devotees from all sections of society attended the Urs and offered Fatiha on the grave. The Urs was presided over by Syed Mohd Arif Razvi Shaikh-ul-Hadees from Bareilly, UP. Programme started with the recitation of holy Quaran followed by Darood and Naat-e-Rasool. Addressing the congregation, Sheikh-ul-Hadees impressed upon people to follow the teachings of saints and sufis. Maulana Muneer SB and Maulana Manzir Qadri spoke on occasion.
