A survey conducted by the National Geographic Society has revealed that India is at the top position in the world’s green index making it the friendliest country on Earth. Lakhs of poor workers, who either work in factories making A.Cs, or fix these products in palatial buildings, themselves never get a chance to work or sleep in air-conditioned surroundings. It is these people, who cannot afford to have motor vehicles, refrigerators or ACs etc, contribute maximum towards the conservation of environment. A Chief Minister was boasting about his state at an election rally. “Our state has topped in providing the most eco-friendly environment by imposing a 24-hour power cut in the rural areas.”

Some people are so slow that if they were the only participants in a race, even then they would finish second. But sometimes some divine intervention makes even the slowest guy walk away with the trophy. As I came out of a gym sweating it out for more than an hour, I met a gym attendant, who was perhaps the slimmest chap in the vicinity. “Are you dieting?” I asked him. “No, I am malnourished. I haven’t received my salary for the past two months due to recession.”
