Water lifting engine stolen: Some miscreants took away one water lifting engine from the nursery of the forest department after locking the guard in his room here late last night. They also removed two of the four "khandas", which were installed at the Sukhmani Sahab Chowk developed on the busy crossing of the city bypass, sources said. Forest guard Hemant reportedly told the police that three persons struck the Nursery located near the Malookpura distributory. Miscreants tied him with a rope and pushed him inside before bolting his room. They took away 5 HP diesel engine that was used for lifting water from the canal to nourish saplings.

Summer camp: The Natrang Youth Club has planned to organise a summer camp from June 8-14 at the LRS DAV Senior Secondary School here, Bhupinder Utreja, project chairman informed. Children aged between 8-16 years will be trained in dance, painting, make up, modeling, swimming and personality development.

Industry to work on Sunday: Agreeing to the demand of the industry, the PSEB has allowed entrepreneurs to run their units on Sunday, which otherwise is an off day for them. An official spokesperson from the Jalandhar circle, which includes Phagwara, said the board had been approached by the industrialists with the plea that since they had suffered huge losses on account of the curfew, they should be allowed to run their units on May 31. The same has been agreed upon and the units can operate as per their previous schedule for May 31 only.

Four arrested:
The police recovered 34 head of buffalos, which were being smuggled to Jammu & Kashmir for slaughtering, here on Saturday. SP Harpreet Singh said two trucks carrying buffalos were impounded at the Pathankot-Jammu highway near Sujanpur. The police arrested Kashmir Singh, Jagdish Raj, Mohan Lal and Makhan. A case under the sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered against the accused.

Narcotics seized: The Gurdaspur police arrested Prabjit Singh of Tibber and seized 145 gram of narcotic powder. Meanwhile, Leelo Devi, Balwinder Singh and Jaswant Singh were arrested for smuggling liquor. Huge quantity of illicit liquor was recovered from their possession. A case under sections of the Excise Act had been registered against them.



PU security guard assaulted: Gurman and Ajay, residents of Muktsar, were today booked for allegedly beating a security guard at Panjab University here this morning. According to police, the duo had come for Law entrance exam. However, they couldnít reach the university on time and as per the directions, the guard didnít allow them inside.
