The police yesterday arrested BJP activist Narinder Chauhan who was allegedly involved with six other persons in assaulting a Congress agent outside a polling station in Dadu Majra Colony on May 13 during the parliamentary elections.
Entrance test postponed: The entrance test for admission to MSc (Mathematics) and MSc (Physics) courses run by the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology have been postponed to July 5. KU results declared: Kurukshetra University (KU) has declared the results of BCom - III exams held in April 2009. Stating this to mediapersons here on Sunday,
KU Controller of Examination Dr Hukam Singh said the pass percentage of BCom - III this year was 83 per cent and the result was available on the University website www.kukinfo.com. Mamta of Hindu Kanya Mahavidyalya, Jind, topped the merit list by securing 1,468 out of 1,800 marks. Sheffy Arora of Dayal Singh College, Karnal, and Manisha Goyal of JC Mahila Mahavidyalya, Asandh, Karnal, got the second and third positions, respectively, in the merit list.

Woman killed in
accident: A 36-year-old woman, Chaman Kumari, a resident of Anandpur Ashram, New Delhi, was killed while three others were injured when the car they were travelling in suddenly overturned on the Jaipur-Delhi highway yesterday.
The driver of the car, Virender Kumar, also sustained injuries. Sources said the vehicle overturned when the driver was trying to rescue an antelope.

Jeweller’s house burgled: Miscreants allegedly broke into a house of a jeweller, Rakesh Suri, in Daru Giran Mohalla on Saturday and decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. The person in charge of the Police Post, Mohinder Singh, said the total value of the stolen goods could be ascertained only when the family returned home.
Ancient idol found: An idol, believed to be centuries old, was found during digging around a spring by villagers in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, a police spokesman said today.
The antique was recovered by residents of Nagbal-Lisser village in Kokernag, 80 km from here, while digging around a spring yesterday, the spokesman said.
He said the antique was handed over to the local police station.
1 killed in mishap: One person was killed and 11 others injured, five of them seriously, when a minibus overturned near Bhaderwah on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as driver of the minibus Parveez Ahmed. The mishap took place when Parveez lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curb. The injured where taken to the Bhaderwah Hospital, where Parveez succumbed to his injuries. Later, as the condition of the five injured started deteriorating, they were taken to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu.

Shot: The police claimed to have shot dead a thief in an encounter in Vasant Vihar area late Saturday night. His accomplice managed to flee. The deceased has been identified as Dharamveer, a resident of Gandhi Colony, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The police have also seized jewellery worth Rs 50,000 and a revolver from Dharamveer’s possession. According to the police, Dharamveer was residing in the city for the past two years and was involved in several thefts.
