Heat stroke claims life
: A 25-year-old died of heat stroke at the railway station here on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Baljeet Singh of Parasram Nagar. The body was handed over to family members after conducting its post-mortem examination.

Tillers meet BSF officials
: A delegation of the border farmers today met the BSF authorities to put across their demands. Karan Singh Dhaliwal, convener of the delegation said that their demand mainly included that the fencing gates should be opened throughout the week and the timings for the farmers should be extended from 8.30 am to 5.30 am. Dhaliwal further said that they met the commending officer 199 battalion BSF, who after giving them a patient hearing, agreed to all their demands.

Man killed in accident
: Preetam Singh, a resident of Bondal road, was killed in an accident last evening. In his compliant to the police, Hardeep Singh, son of the victim, said his father was on his way to his house on a bike when an unidentified vehicle hit him. The victim was declared dead on arrival at the civil hospital.

Shop  burgled:  Surinder Singh, a resident of Hedon village, has alleged that some unidentified miscreants took away material worth Rs 26,000 from his shop by breaking the doors of his shop. In his compliant to the police, he claimed that the thieves stole Rs 500 in cash and recharge coupons of various telecom companies besides a battery and some other items lying in the shop. The police has registered a case in this connection. No arrests have been made so far.

Dodgeball trials tomorrow
: The Haryana Amateur Dodgeball Association will conduct trials for Haryana dodgeball teams of boys and girls, respectively, at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 7, on June 20. The teams will participate in the 3rd Junior National Dodgeball Championship 2009, which will be held at Delhi from June 26 to 28. — TNS

FATEHABAD
Tributes paid: Former Governors Sultan Singh and Parsani Devi, Indian Youth Congress president and Sirsa MP Ashok Tanwar and former Haryana ministers Jagdish Nehra and Surender Barwala were among hundreds of prominent persons of the state who paid rich tributes to Mani Ram Godara, a former Haryana minister, who died on June 15. The “rasam pagree” of the late leader was observed in his native village, Nimri, on Thursday. — TNS

Contractors boycott tenders: The contractors working with the Panchayati Raj Department here on Thursday boycotted the tenders invited by the executive engineer of the Panchayati Raj for various development works. The contractors said they were forced to take the decision as the department was not ready to allot them work as per the prevailing market rates of construction material. Earlier on May 26 too, the contractors had refused to submit tenders for construction works. Union president Rattan Singh said the rates of construction material had increased by 25 per cent. The department was ready to pay Rs 2,400 per thousand for bricks where as the market price varies between Rs 3,500 to Rs 3,800. — OC

Results declared: Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here has declared the results of annual examinations for undergraduate courses - BA/BSc/BCom (Part-II). Girls have yet again topped the university in all three streams. Controller of examinations, MDU, KC Dadhwal said Deepti Satija of KLP College, Rewari, topped the BA (II) examinations with 86.63 per cent marks and Poonam of GVM Girls College, Sonepat, got first position in BSc (II) with 87.5 per cent marks while Sonakshi Juneja of Govt College for Women, Rohtak, topped BCom (II) examinations with 80.42 per cent marks. He said the detailed results and the university merit list was available on MDU website www.mdurohtak.com. — OC

MDU exams: Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) here will conduct the annual examinations of BEd and MEd from June 29. The university has notified the examination schedule in this regard. University’s CoE KC Dadhwal said the annual examinations of BEd/MEd would be held from June 29 to July 12. The examinations for MEd will be from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, while for BEd it will be from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. The date sheet is available on the university website www.mdurohtak.com. The varsity will conduct the entrance examination for LLB on June 21. — OC
