Summer camp concludes today
: The culmination ceremony of free summer vacation education coaching camp held at Government Senior Secondary School, Mallunangal, here would be organised tomorrow.

Interactive session with Mehar Mittal on June 21
: The Public Library here would be organising an interactive session with noted Punjabi comedian Mehar Mittal on June 21 at 4:30 pm at the library. Jagdish Singh Ghai from the library, in a press release issued on Friday, stated that Mittal was born here and his acting career was started here. Mittal left his law career for acting and contributed to Punjabi films through acting for which he would be honoured at the library.

Bank staff stage protest: On a call given by the State Sector Bank Employees Association (SSBEA), employees of the State Bank of Patiala (SBoP), Bathinda, held a demonstration in front of the zonal office of the SBoP here on Friday. They raised slogans against the management of the SBI for taking initiative for merging associate banks with the SBI by the Board of State Bank of Indore. In a press release issued by the SBoP Employees’ Union here on Friday, the All India Bank Employees Association had already given a call to go on strike on July 3 against the merger of associate banks.

One feared drowned
: A private pick-up van and its driver washed away in the Ravi following a landslide near Loona on the Chamba-Bharmour Highway on Wednesday, according to a police report received here on Thursday. The incident took place when the vehicle was on its way to Chamba. A search is still on for the driver and the vehicle that have been feared drowned.

Memo submitted: The Chamera Stage-II oustees’ Welfare Samiti has warned the NHPC management of an indefinite fast strike if the management till June 16 did not concede to their demands. In a memorandum submitted to Chamba DC Devesh Kumar, samiti president Lal Singh said Chamera oustees had already apprised the NHPC management and the district administration of their problems many a time but all in vain.

NURPUR
Mishap claims a life
: Roshan Lal of Ondh village died when a truck he was travelling in hit against a tree on the Pathankot-Mandi national highway at Jassur on Wednesday. Truck driver Pritam Chand fled after the mishap, but was, according to the police, arrested on Thursday. A case has been registered against him and the truck was also impounded.

Jumbo kills youth
: An elephant trampled a youth at Pili village in Shyampur range on Friday. Ram Diya, 21, and his friend Ajay were in the jungle to collect wood when they were attacked by the enraged elephant, which trampled Ram Diya to death. Shyampur SHO Pradeep Chauhan said the body has been sent for postmortem.
