Admn appealed to resume construction of overbridge: Members of the Guru Milk Plant Employees Union (Milk Plant, Bathinda), during a meeting held here on Tuesday, appealed to the administration to resume the construction of the overbridge on the Delhi Fatak. The members believed that they would get some respite from the traffic problem once the bridge was completed.

Two hurt in road mishap: Two motorcycle-borne youth sustained serious injuries when they were hit by a speeding car on Bathinda-Talwandi Road on Tuesday. They were shifted to the Civil Hospital. The injured have been identified as Tarsem Singh (20) and Sami Singh (19), residents of Phus Mandi.

Vendor injured: A vendor, Tarsem Singh of Parjapat colony, got hurt when his cart was hit by a car near hotel Sepal on Tuesday.

Cardiologist bereaved: Nirmal Singh (83), father of Dr TS Kler, eminent cardiologist and Director of Escorts Heart and Research Centre, died at Samrala, near Ludhiana, on Tuesday. Nirmal Singh was cremated in the evening at Samrala. His funeral procession was largely attended.

Road relaying: The nightmarish experiences of Chhoti Baradari-II residents might just be over as the potholed roads of the area are being repaired after a gap of over four years. MLA Jagbir Brar and councillor Shiv Dyal Chugh inaugurated the road re-laying project in the colony on Tuesday.

MSc paper cancelled: Punjabi University’s MSc astronomy and space physics and MSc applied physics part-I (IInd semester) paper of digital electronics which was held on May 22 is cancelled due to administrative reasons. Now this exam will be held on June 30 in the morning session from 9 am to 12 noon at Botany Department of the university.

Fire breaks out at dhabha: A fire broke out at a dhabha-cum-sweet shop at the local Mahavir Chowk on Tuesday afternoon. Commodities and other articles, lying in the shop, were burnt badly, but no one was injured. The Fire Brigade reached immediately and controlled the fire in just 15 minutes.

85-acre forest land gutted
: Wild fire broke out in the forest areas of Achalpur and Bhawanipur villages in Garhshankar subdivision this afternoon. According to official sources, fire engulfed at least 85 acres of forest area. The staff of the Garhshankar Forest Division was taking effective steps to control the fire.

Cash snatched: Three motorcycle-borne unidentified youths snatched Rs 5,170 and a pair of ear-rings from Harbans Lal of Makowal at pistol point while he was going on a motorcycle along with his wife to Hajipur today. According to police sources, when Harbans Lal and his wife reached near Sohara Kandi canal, three youths on a motorcycle appeared before them and snatched the cash and gold ornaments at pistol point and fled towards Makhowal side.


Rape case: The police on Tuesday registered a case of rape on the complaint of a 14-year-old girl, a resident of Panarsa, accusing Dine Ram (21), a resident of Banala, of raping her. According to the police, the girl stated in the complaint that she had gone to the get water along with her sister on the morning of June 21 when the accused pushed her inside a dark room and raped her.

One held: The police on Tuesday arrested Ved Ram, a resident of Balan village in Sainj (Kullu district), under the NDPS Act after recovering 650 gm of charas from him when he was trying to flee from Aut.


Memo to Rawat
: The Uttarakhand Rajya Andolankari Manch on Tuesday submitted a 17-point memorandum to Union Minister of State for Employment and Labour Harish Rawat. The demands include recognising Lal Dangh area as a block, upgrade of Shyampur High School and 70 per cent quota for people of Uttarakhand in SIDCUL factories. Led by state vice-president JP Pandey, the delegation was vocal on construction of a Senani Bhawan (freedom fighter community hall) in Gazziwala village.
