CA Day celebrated
: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) celebrated the CA Day on the occasion of 60th year of the profession. A press release issued here on Wednesday said Mahesh Jindal, chairman, ICAI, Bathinda, hoisted the flag during a ceremony and congratulated all its members. The members took a pledge to take the profession to newer heights. 

ACs presented: The Sushant City on the Bathinda-Mansa road performed ‘Grih Pravesh’ at its complex on Wednesday. A press release said Rajinder Mittal, director, Ansal Mittal Townships Private Limited, presented air-conditioners to first four occupants of the houses in the complex. 

AICTE nod to GGSCET: The All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, has granted permission to the Guru Gobind Singh College of Engineering & Technology, Talwandi Sabo, for conducting a course in MBA, a press release issued by the Guru Gobind Singh Group of Institutes here on Wednesday said. The AICTE also permitted the college to increase the seats in mechanical engineering from 90 to 120. 

Congress Legislature Party meeting on July 3: Punjab Leader of Opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has called a meeting of the Punjab Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on July 3 in its office in the Punjab Vidhan Bhawan here immediately after the adjournment of the House. All Congress MLAs have been requested to join the meeting positively, according to a party statement here on Wednesday.

Maruti Suzuki’s new outlet
: Maruti Suzuki has opened its new outlet here on Wednesday. The dealership has been given to Pankaj Motors, which already runs two outlets at Moga and Jagraon in Ludhiana district. While inaugurating the showroom and workshop, Ankur Sharma, regional manager of the Maruti Suzuki India Limited said his company enjoys the largest market share of more than 59 per cent in the car market of the nation and worldwide economic recession had no effect on the sales of cars manufactured by Maruti Suzuki. The market share has grown by more than 4 per cent in the last two years, he said.

Flood control measures:
Arrangements are being made to avoid any flood like situation in the Mansa district. The height of Ghaggar Bridge near Sardoolgarh is being increased from 3 to 5 feet as it would be helpful in controlling the floods, deputy commissioner Kumar Rahul claimed. The DC on Wednesday visited the site and inspected the ongoing work. He informed that nearly 400 workers have been working on this project and this work is being carried out with the funds provided under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).

Employees found absent: Deputy Commissioner VK Ohri and local SDM Pardeep Aggarwal on Tuesday morning conducted surprise checking in various offices, situated in the district administrative complex here. During the checking, they found dozens of employees of different departments absent from duty. 

44 blood units donated: The Rotary Club, Sunam, on Wednesday organised a blood donation camp on the premises of the Rotary Complex at Sunam. As many as 44 units of blood were donated by donors. The camp was organised under the presidentship of Rakesh Aggarwal and inaugurated by Sunam SDM Baldev Singh. Blood Transfusion Officer Inderjit Singla led the Sangrur blood bank team for collecting blood.



Kidwai’s birthday celebrated: The birthday of Haryana Governor AR Kidwai was celebrated at Haryana Raj Bhawan here on Wednesday in a simple but gracious and affectionate manner. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Speaker, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Dr Raghubir Singh Kadian, Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University RP Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar Lt Gen Dr DDS Sandhu, senior officers of the state government and the staff of the Raj Bhawan wished Kidwai a long life. A bouquet on behalf of General Officer Commending-in-Chief Lt General TK Sapru was also presented to the Governor.

Posting orders: The Haryana government has posted IAS Ashok Yadav, awaiting posting orders, as the Director and Special Secretary, Development and Panchayats.

12 cops suspended: Twelve cops have been suspended by the SP CS Rao for failing to report on duty, when specifically ordered. The suspended cops, who include a sub-inspector, a head constable, three constables and seven lady constables have been suspended as they were found absent in the police lines, when their duties were required for sending them to Bhoda Hoshnak village, where villagers had blocked vehicular traffic on Sunday. 

Counselling for MBBS, BDS: Counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS in government and government-aided medical and dental colleges in the state will be held at the Pt BD Sharma PGIMS here on July 9 and 10. General category candidates (rank 1 to 400) are required to report in the office of the Director, PGIMS, Rohtak, on July 9 at 8 am along with all original documents. The SC (rank 1 to 76), BC-A (rank 1 to 133), BC-B (rank 1 to 120), PH (rank 1) and ESM (rank 1 to 22) category candidates are required to report on July 10 at 8 am. 

Physicians’ conference held: Leading pharmaceutical company Cipla Ltd today organised a conference of physicians on the occasion of Doctors’ Day. Dr Sanjay Garg, Dr Gurdeep Shergill and Dr Ashish Khurana delved in to common ailments like hypertension, asthma and diabetes and informed how these ailments could be kept at a distance by slight modification in the life style, regular exercises and abstaining from smoking and liquor.

Car taken away: Three armed robbers reportedly looted a car from its driver at gunpoint near Odhan here on Tuesday. Driver Charan Singh, a resident of Talwandi Sabo of Punjab, informed the police that two unidentified persons had hired his car to Ding Mandi on Tuesday. Another person joined them near Mithadi village here. He followed the car on his motorcycle and handed over a pistol to the occupants. Later, the miscreants threw him out and decamped with the car. The police has registered a case.
