Shortage of trained clerical staff at the local railway reservation complex, coupled with an unholy nexus between a few employees and touts, has made the task of reserving the tickets of a large number of city residents intending to undertake long-route travel, a tough job.

Sewerage treatment plant shut down
Ludhiana, July 23
The Balloke Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) would be shut down for more than a month following damage to one of its portions due to overflow of water. According to sources, it would take more than a month to repair the damaged portion and till then, the STP would be closed. However, a bypass channel would be used, but it would reduce work efficiency to 60 per cent. Besides, it affects the quality of water being released to Budda Nullah.

After widespread showers in the city and neighbourhood yesterday, the bleak power scenario, with power cuts ranging between five and seven hours, has brightened a bit as the power cuts on mixed and industrial feeders have been slashed and other restrictions on power consumption have also been relaxed.

Legal literacy camp held

The District Legal Services Authority today organised two legal literacy seminars in Jassowal and Bheela villages for creating awareness about their legal rights, concept of lok-adalat, national rural employment scheme and entitlement for free legal services.Presiding over the seminar, Judicial Magistrate Ashok Kumar Chauhan said the authority had constituted a panel of 15 lawyers for providing free legal assistance to the needy.

Looters’ gang busted; 2 held
Machhiwara, July 23
The police today arrested two persons allegedly involved in a large number of cases of robbery and loot. The police has also recovered two country-made pistols from their possession. The accused have been identified as Vishal alias Sally, a resident of Ludhiana, and Raj Kumar alias Raju of Jalandhar.

6 to take part in Asian bodybuilding meet

The names of six boys from Punjab figure on the list of the 14-member Indian bodybuilding squad, announced by the Indian Bodybuilding Federation. These boys will represent the nation in the 43rd Asian Bodybuilding Championship slated to be held in Aurangabad from July 24 to 27.
