Budha Nullah rages
Ludhiana, July 28
The ‘Sorrow of Ludhiana’ — Budha Nullah — too faced the brunt of monsoon furry as it overflowed following rains that have been lashing the city for the past 24 hours. Many areas on the banks of the nullah were flooded, exposing the work on cleaning up drains in the municipal limits by the municipal corporation, which had sanctioned over Rs 5 lakh for the purpose.

Rail traffic goes bust
Ludhiana, July 28
Rail traffic on the Ludhiana-Amritsar, Ludhiana-Jammu and Ludhiana-Delhi sections went haywire due to heavy rain last night. The tracks were flooded at several places in the region and platforms were inundated.

Power supply affected
Ludhiana, July 28
Incessant rain lashing the city since last night has badly affected the power supply network in the city with as many as 60 feeders out of nearly 375 shutting down due to short-circuit, earthing of cable-end boxes and wet insulators.

Rain keeps roofless school shut

Heavy rains in the city have exposed the tall claims of the state government of having adequate infrastructure in primary schools. Government Primary School, 1A and 1C, Jail Road, could not function today as it did not have roof, rooms, let alone fans or water coolers. The school is located in the most uncongenial environment for education and has students belonging to the lower strata of society.
