: The result of the BA/B.Sc. Part-II examination held by the Guru Nanak Dev University this April would be declared on July 29.

SGPC chief to meet Manmohan: Concerned over the repeated statements made by Haryana Chief Minister Bhoopinder Singh Hooda regarding the creation of a separate gurdwara committee, SGPC president Avtar Singh has sought a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The SGPC president, in a missive to the Prime Minister, has said there was a need to resolve the ticklish issue of the Haryana Gurdwara Committee on an urgent basis. He said the misconceived action on the part of the Haryana CM in the Assembly session could send the Congress into unnecessary embarrassment due to the fallout of such an action. Avtar said he, along with Sukhdev Singh Bhaur and Dalmegh Singh, general secretary and secretary, respectively, would like to have a detailed discussion on the issue.

Pak prisoner sent back: Mohammad Shehzad, Pakistan national, who entered into the Indian territory inadvertently, in February 2003 was on Tuesday handed over Pakistan Rangers at Attari-Wagah joint check post here. According to information, Shehnaz (30) was caught by the Army while illegally crossing over to India from the Line of Control in the Jammu and Kashmir side near Banihal. He was arrested and later lodged in jail in Tihar. He was handed over to Pakistan Rangers by Arun Sharma, company commandant, BSF.

Bathinda
One held under NDPS Act
: Local police arrested one Vikas Garg of Balaji Telecom, a mobile shop at Bhagu Road, Bathinda, for allegedly running an illicit trade in drugs. Police said that the accused was selling psychotropic drugs with the telecom shop as a front. Police recovered tablets and bottles of cough syrup.

Embryo transfer technology
: Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT), used for the improvement of breeds, has succeeded at the village level. The first experiment was conducted by the Animal Husbandry Department at Areshan village on a cow in Ludhiana. Gulzar Singh Ranike, Animal Husbandry Minister, said the state government had sanctioned a grant of Rs 25 crore for the ETT. Ranike further added that 12 veterinary doctors had been trained during last year in this technology.

Sangrur
1 killed as trailers collide
: In a road accident, which took place today on the Sangrur-Patiala road, near Channo village, 40 km from here, Kewal Singh, conductor of a trailer loaded with stones, was killed on the spot, while Gurjit Singh, driver of another trailer loaded with cement, and conductor Sat Pal Singh sustained injuries.

Teenaged girl abducted
: A teenaged girl from Thathian Mahantan village, has been abducted by one Chaman Lal of Chheena Bidhi Chand village. The Sarhali police has registered a case against the accused. The mother of the girl, in her statement, said the girl had gone to her maternal uncleís place in Chheena Bidhi Chand village, where she used to go to the accused for medical treatment. The girl was at her parentís place these days. The mother said when the girl had gone to the fields for planting paddy, the accused came to the village and abducted her.

Power woes: District CPI Secretary Tara Singh Khehra has written a letter to CM Parkash Singh Badal highlighting the bleak power situation. Khehra said the proposed 220 KV substation to be constructed here has not started. He said the present substation was overloaded and the residents have to face power disruption. All substations of the area are overloaded and this way the PSEB canít provide 8-hour power supply to the farmers, he added. The leader demanded the construction of more substations in the area.
