On this day, a legend was born

Who brought in India, the Independence’s dawn

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was his name

Ahimsa and satya were his aim

Simple in lifestyle and dignified was he

No one could have been like him may be

He studied law in London and practised in South Africa

Non-violence and truth was his agenda

Once his luggage was thrown out of first class rail compartment

From then, he decided to make India independent

In 1948, he was shot dead by Nathuram Godse

May his soul rest in peace that is what I pray

Today let us pay him a tribute and homage

Because he is an inspiration for every age
