Low visibility due to dense fog coupled with the cascading effect of the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan continued to wreak havoc on rail traffic on trunk routes, with passengers - both aboard the trains and those waiting at station platforms, left to fend for themselves in the biting cold.

Gang of vehicle thieves busted, 3 held

With the arrest of three persons, the police has claimed to have busted a notorious gang of car and truck lifters. The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar, alias Danny, Ajhar Hussain, alias, Kala, Mohmad Akhtar and Tanvir Ahmad, while the fifth accused Bagga Khan, alias Boss, managed to flee from the spot.

Tipplers being taken to the police station in Ludhiana 8 held for drinking in public place
Ludhiana, December 30
The police today nabbed eight persons, including a dhaba owner, for allowing customers to consume liquor at a public place. The raid was conducted at around 6:45 pm when the police team led by SHO Kotwali Nirmal Singh spotted some men consuming liquor inside a shop.

Southern Bypass
Complete missing link, HC orders govt

With the Punjab and Haryana High Court asking the state government to start the process of acquiring land, decks have been cleared for the completion of the southern bypass after seven years. In 2003, the project was conceived with the idea of decongesting the city. A direct link was planned between the Ferozepur Road and the GT Road through the Urban Estate (Phase 3), Dugri, and Pakhowal Road.
