Website launched
: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Ferozepur, has become the first organisation of its kind in the country, which launched its own website on Thursday. The website -www.consumerforum-fzr.gov.in - was launched in the presence of various district officials.

: Dr Harsh Sadawarti, director, RIMT-IET, has been conferred Punjab Ratan Award for his contribution to the field of technical education. He was awarded during the All-India Conference of Intellectuals in New Delhi on December 26.

Selected: Mohali-based Advanta Innovations, a software development company, visited the RIMT Group of Institutes during a placement drive. MBA students took the written test. Nine students were selected by the company.

Smuggler held
: The police arrested a drug smuggler and recovered a huge quantity of medical drugs from his possession in the Cheema area of Sangrur, here on Thursday. SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar told mediapersons that following a tip-off, a police team arrested Balvir Singh of Hamalwas Jakhepal from the Sheron road in Cheema here. He added that the police recovered 67,000 intoxicating pills, 3,000 Highfodeck capsules, 2,400 pills of Alprazolam-50 from his possession. A case has been registered. 



Illegal sale of drugs: State Health and Family Welfare Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla has directed health officials to curb the illegal sale of habit-forming drugs in the state. At a meeting held here on Wednesday, she assured people that the government was committed to curb the misuse of habit- forming drugs. She added that drug control officials were active and owing to the concerted efforts of the department, habit-forming drugs worth Rs 2.50 crore had been seized during 2010. In December alone, drugs valuing Rs 36 lakh had been confiscated. 

Contested mutation cases: The government will soon launch a special campaign to resolve all pending contested cases of mutations in different revenue courts. A decision to this effect was taken by the CM at a meeting with a five-member delegation of the BKU. Emphasising the need to initiate a statewide vigorous campaign to streamline all the revenue records, the CM directed the Revenue Department to chalk out an action plan for regular and compulsory updating of land record.



Youth found dead in Bhiwani
: The police found the body of a youth from a nullah near Ghosian Chowk hereon Thursday. The body was sent for post mortem. Vikram of Jain chowk area had an altercation with some youths 20 days ago. Mukesh, brother of deceased, said his brother had gone out with a woman on Wednesday night never to return.
The sweepers, found his body the following morning. The police was informed. The body bore some injury marks . The cause of the death will be ascertained only after the postmortem report. 



Mir for political empowerment of youth
: Ghulam Hassan Mir, president of the Democratic Party Nationalist, said here on Wednesday that the youth of the state should be politically involved in the state affairs so that they were politically empowered. Mir, who is also the Agriculture Minister in the coalition government, was addressing a one-day youth convention in which a large number of youths from far off areas of the Valley participated. He urged the youth to be the key agents for the state’s prosperity and peace, for in development and peace lies the future of the 21st century.
