CAG got its numbers wrong, claims Sibal
‘If the actual 2G Spectrum licence conditions were factored in, the presumptive loss would be zero’
New Delhi, January 7
The government today used arithmetic to dismiss the 2G Spectrum scam as a farce, challenging the CAG findings that fuelled the sensation in the first place. Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal while “revealing the 2G truth to the people” slammed as “utterly erroneous” the presumptive loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore which the CAG listed in its report to the Finance Ministry in November 2010.

Court accepts Swamy’s complaint 
against Raja
New Delhi, January 7
A special CBI court today allowed the plea of Janta Party president Subramanian Swamy, who has sought prosecution of former Telecom Minister A Raja in the 2G Spectrum case, saying it was “maintainable.” Special CBI Judge Pradeep Chaddah said, “I am of the opinion that complaint as such is maintainable... I have also gone through the complaint and the bunch of annexures and supporting documents and I am of the view that this complaint should be taken ahead and the proceeding will continue.”

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee asked Chief Ministers to crack down on hoarders to ensure smooth supply of essential items from farm gate to retail customers.

Aarushi case
Talwars to get copy of CBI report
Ghaziabad, January 7
Aarushi’s parents will get a copy of the closure report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, according to the directions of the special court here today. The hearing in the case started at 10.35 am with Satish Tamta, Rajesh Talwar’s counsel, asking the CBI judge for a copy of the closure report filed by the probe agency on December 29. CBI lawyer RK Saini opposed the appeal by Talwar, saying that he was arrested as an accused in the case. Saini said that the accused could not be treated as a first informant.

A perusal of the CBI’s closure report in Aarushi case says that the agency collected many tell-tale signs, all of which pointed at her parents’ involvement, but decided against filing a chargesheet against them for two important reasons.

Will quit if no Telangana Bill, declare Cong leaders
Hyderabad, January 7
Congress leaders from Telangana today said they are ready to quit their posts if the Bill for formation of separate Telangana is not introduced in the budget session of Parliament. “If the Bill is not introduced in the coming budget session of Parliament, we will be compelled to quit," Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Jupally Krishna Rao told reporters after a meeting of party MPs, ministers, MLAs and MLCs here.
