Medal medley

A
medal is a medal even if it is wooden one. More than the medal, it is
the appreciation attached with it. A gold medal has, of course, has
extra glitter associated with the achievement, especially now a days
when gold prices are skyrocketing. If you proudly hang a gold medal on
a wall of your drawing room, the first question any visitor will ask
is, "Sardar sahib, what was it that got you this gold
medal?" Then it will be your turn to tell the story how you saved
a little kid from drowning in a river last summer. You will be lucky
if your wife doesn’t cut in to tell the guest that sardar sahib
was lucky in two ways. Firstly there was no water in the river, and
secondly there was no other contender for the bravery award last year.
I read somewhere that
Parkash Singh Badal has decided to give away gold medals to his party
workers for outstanding work in the poll arena. I hope the medals won’t
be in categories such as the gold medal for booth capturing or the
gold medal terrorising the opponent’s voters.
Somebody asked a party
worker what had brought him a gold medal. He said, "It is for my
25th ceremonious coming back to the party after all those
expulsions!"
