Part-realistic
and part-pure imaginational, Sorry Secrets brings forth a bunch
of tales that deal with emotions that are macabre, fantastical and
heart-rending. The stories, which have sprung from the mind of an
observant and curious 17-year-old, have a freshness. The 11 stories
and two poems that have been penned by Aditya S. Pendalya, are
descriptively written but poorly edited. Once you take away your
attention from the badly edited stories and inexcusable proof reading,
you will appreciate them. The debut author has demonstrated his
proficiency at handling a broad range of emotions. In stories like Run
Motu Run, you see the author tackle the issue of obesity and its
mentally crushing effect on today’s youth, what with the obese
motherless teenage protagonist – Bhaskar - finding solace in a dream
world. In Dead and Here and Disearthed, the author shows
his proclivity towards the concept of Earth’s doom. Weed and Coke
and Grey Shades which are peopled with protagonists and
characters who have a somewhat convoluted understanding of reality. Sorry
Secrets, Cliff Hanger and Blood that teenagers, can relate
to. Though the stories may not find home with a lot of readers but
what cannot be disputed is that this young novelist has a very fertile
imagination. The author wins over the poet. My Fiend and Soulful
Breeze have a lyrical quality but the poet has a long way to go to
show some degree of mastery.
