 SUPERFRUIT MACQUI BERRY
 Dr Chiranjit Parmar

  Macqui
berry ( Aristotelia chilensis) also called Chilean wine berry,
a fruit native to Valdivia temperate rainforests of Chile and the
Southern Argentina, and is being grown and used in that area since
centuries. This fruit is called a superfruit as it has a very high
content of antioxidants, three to four times more than other
antioxidant-rich fruits like acai berry, blueberry, pomegranates etc.
So there is a great demand for this fruit now from manufacturers of
health supplements. Macqui fruits are small, 4-6 mm wide and purple
black in colour. These are borne on small 4-5 m tall trees. This fruit
is not cultivated or marketed in India yet.
