Malta orange with striped skin
Dr Chiranjit Parmar
 A variety of malta
orange (Citrus sinensis) with an unusual colour exists in Brazil. The
fruits of this variety have yellow stripes on the body which is
yellowish green. Normally the colour of malta oranges varies from
yellow to deep orange, which is uniformly distributed. Malta orange
used to be cultivated orange all over India till six to seven decades
back. Then its trees started getting affected by the disease called
"citrus decline". It virtually wiped off malta orange
orchards and the farmers stopped growing this fruit.
