He has always been known as an easy-going, charming boy, who every girl would have loved to take home to her mother till, of course, Mahi Vij, his real-life wife, outdid all other girls and took him to her mom. Always sporting, he would take everyone’s leg pulling with a smile. Ever ready to oblige other’s request, Jay Bhanushali is all set to step out of his comfort zone with two back-to-back films, which project him in an entirely different genre. "Why would the audience go to the cinema hall if they had to watch the same TV host Jay? I was lucky to get two entirely different characters to act in my debut films, I grabbed them," Jay is hoping that fans who have loved him as the genial host on Dance India Dance reality shows on Zee TV channel, as a participant on Jhalak Dikhla Jaa 2, Nach Baliye 5 and, of course, as Neev in Ekta Kapoor’s Kayamath, will continue to love in this changed image. The first film Hate Story 2 sees him as an ardent lover with steamy, erotic love scenes with his co-star Surveen Chawla. "Those scenes are only in one song — "Aaj phir tumpe pyaar aaya hai" by Arijit Singh and Samira Koppikar. Hate Story 2 is entirely different from its predecessor Hate Story, earnestly explained Jay, the lead man of the film. He also admitted that initially enacting those erotic scenes in front of so many crew members and to get the appropriate expressions was difficult. But with cooperation from Surveen, he was finally able to enact out the scenes. His character in his next film, Desi Kattey, an action drama, is entirely different from this role. Here he is projected as a rough, uncouth orphan growing up with his friend making and selling country guns. Ask him about how he enjoyed both diametrically opposite roles, he says, "I had fun while shooting Hate Story 2 whereas I had to work really hard for Desi Kattey!" According to Jay, Sunil Shetty is great fun to work with as he loves to play pranks on everybody which eases tension on the set. Jay adds, "I had to work hard for both the films but in Desi Kattey, I had him to guide me in difficult action scenes. He taught me how to get both the action and expression right. That was really a great help." Will films mean a no more Jay on TV? Quickly refuting these notions, he says, "I love my hosting job, especially when I have to deal with children on Dance India Dance (DID). I just love those kids. As long as I can do it, I will continue." He brushes aside the accusations that some of the participating kids on DID behave in a very irritating and too grown up for their age. He explained that many of these kids are selected for their conversational skills. At a particular point, all 30 to 40 kids dance at the same level of expertise. To make them attractive and the programme exciting for women, who are the main audience, children, who are better at expressing themselves are selected. Expecting their first child soon, Jay Bhanushali admits that Mahi his actor-dancer wife is a very happy being a stay-at-home wife. "It will have to be a very heavy duty role for her to get out and be on the set."
