The World Test Championship Final 2023 is moving towards its business end as Australia has given a massive target of 444 runs to India to chase down in the fourth innings. The Pat Cummins-led side resumed their innings on 123/4 on Day 4 and built on their massive lead to get into a commanding position in the game. The first two sessions of Day 4 were full of action as Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc put on a magnificent exhibition of strokeplay for the fans.

However, one shot that caught everyone’s attention was an exquisite cover drive from Alex Carey against Ravindra Jadeja. During the 69th over of Australia’s second innings, Jadeja bowled a juicy half-volley right outside Carey’s off stump on the fifth delivery of the over.

Carey opened up his arms and threw his bat at it and guided the ball towards the extra cover boundary with a majestic cover drive. The shot got appreciation from everyone on the ground, as it helped Australia bring up their 200 in the second innings.

Carey went on to score a magnificent 66* with the help of eight boundaries and got involved in a crucial 93-run stand with Mitchell Starc (41) to help his side take their lead beyond 400. Australia declared their innings on 270/8 in the second innings with a lead of 443 runs and set India a massive target of 444 to chase down in the fourth innings.

India need 280 runs on Day 5

In the fourth innings, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out with a clear intent to score and added 41 runs for the first wicket. However, Gill got dismissed courtesy of another breathtaking catch by Cameron Green. Rohit (43) also departed after getting set at the crease trying to sweep Nathan Lyon.

Cheteshwar Pujara (27) was batting positively but in an attempt to uppercut a bouncer from Pat Cummins, ended up handing an easy catch to stumper Alex Carey, which left India reeling at 93/3.

Following this, Virat Kohli (44*) and Ajinkya Rahane (20*) got set at the crease taking India to 164/3 at stumps on Day 4 needing another 280 runs to win on the final day of the WTC 2023 tomorrow.
