The Day 4 of the World Test Championship final (WTC) 2023 was quite an eventful one for both India and Australia. Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green were on the strike when the day began, as Australia resumed their innings from 123 for 4 from Day 3.

However, Australia showed resilience and put in an impressive performance with the bat. Labuschagne amassed 41 runs in 126 balls. Cameron Green failed to make as much of an impact on the game. The star all-rounder only managed to score 25 runs in 95 deliveries before he was sent packing by Ravindra Jadeja.

Wicketkeeper Alex Carey was the highest run-getter for Australia in the second innings. Carey was sensational as he amassed 66* runs to his name in 105 deliveries. Furthermore, Mitchell Starc was sensational with the bat as well. The star pacer’s late push of 41 runs in 57 balls, helped the Aussies notch up 270 runs on the board, giving India a target of 444 runs to win the game.

Ravindra Jadeja was the highest wicket taker for India in the second innings. The veteran all-rounder took three wickets, dismissing Steve Smith, Travis Head, and Cameron Green. Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav took two wickets each, with Mohammed Siraj striking once.

Coming in to chase the target down, India were dealt an early blow as Shubman Gill was dismissed after a controversial catch by Cameron Green. The 23-year-old departed after scoring 18 runs in 19 deliveries. Furthermore, skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 43 runs in 60 balls.

To add to the side’s woes, Cheteshwar Pujara was sent back to the pavilion for 27 runs in 47 deliveries. By the end of the day’s play, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane stood at the crease.

Kohli sat at 44* runs in 60 deliveries, whereas Rahane has managed to score an unbeaten 20 runs in 59 deliveries thus far. India managed a total of 164 runs at the loss of three wickets by the end of Day 4.
