“Brain stimulation techniques have proved to be more effective in treatment of psychiatric disorders,” said Prof SK Mattoo, head, Department of Psychiatry, PGIMER.

“While electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been around for many years, newer brain stimulation techniques such as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (RTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) have gained prominence recently and are now available at the PGIMER as well,” said Dr Shubh Mohan Singh, Department of Psychiatry.

On the occasion of its 56th Foundation Day, the Department of Psychiatry will be organising a national-level CME on “Brain stimulation and electroconvulsive therapy in psychiatric disorders” on September 15.
