Amritsar, December 13

Amritsar has become one of the favourite places for destination weddings, parties and anniversary celebrations this season.

People are traveling from Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad and even foreign countries to cherish their special occasion to the city. Interestingly, all of them want to taste the traditional Punjabi food and enjoy sightseeing of various tourist spots in the city. Besides, they also enjoy a feel of the Punjabi culture in their celebrations.

The families of Mumbai-based couple Rohit Sethiya and Pallavi Mehra, who got married here in the first week of December, wanted to try other places for the destination wedding of the couple.

Anuja, a relative of Rohit, said, “We as a family wanted to prefer a destination wedding. While figuring out places such as Goa and Rajasthan, we finalised Amritsar as it was not explored. Everyone enjoyed the food and Punjabi hospitality.”

“It is an economical option. The weather was quite suitable for all our relatives. As we belong to the Marwari community, we had not earlier explored the place and we wanted to enjoy it in a Punjabi style,” she added.

Besides weddings, destination parties are also being held in the city. “My sister-in-law and brother-in-law are planning to hold a grand function to celebrate their anniversary in January. Since they are fond of the Punjabi culture, we are planning to celebrate it in Amritsar. It is popular as compared to other places. I have a few friends in the city who will help me out,” said Tina Gandhi, who hails from Maharashtra.
