Ludhiana: Students of Green Land Convent School, New Subhash Nagar, proved their mettle in the district-level karate tournament.



Ludhiana: Students of Green Land Convent School, New Subhash Nagar, proved their mettle in the district-level karate tournament.  Souravdeep Singh Walia of Class VIII bagged gold under the 55-kg category has been selected for the state-level tournament, Partik of Class VI clinched bronze medal under the 30-kg category. Akshit Arora of Class IX secured silver under the 35-kg category. The chairman of chain of Green Land Schools, Rajesh Rudhra, congratulated the winners on their achievements.

Joy of Giving week

At Nirdosh School, Gandhi Jayanti celebrations kicked off with Goonj’s Daan Utsav (Joy of Giving) to be held from October 2 to 8. Poonam Bindra said school had joined hands with a national-level NGO and established a collection centre at Nirdosh School which would be the official collection point of Goonj. The material collected will be of great help for needy. An anti-plastic campaign was also announced on the occasion. Students were encouraged to say no to plastic and promote paper and jute bags. They were also made aware of harmful effects of plastic on living beings and nature.

Plogging drive marks Gandhi Jayanti

DCM Presidency School’s environment initiative provided an extension to two initiatives formulated by the Government of India, the Swatchta hi Seva and plogging. The activities were combined under a single, extensive environmental outreach drive initiated by the school, bringing the entire city of Ludhiana under its ambit. The fraternity and student volunteers of the school took up various areas within the city to collect plastic waste to convey the message of shunning the use of single-use plastic and promote the use of recycled and environment-friendly materials. Principal Rajni Kalra appreciated the joint efforts of teachers and students and urged them to keep serving the community.

Students learn to spin charkha 

Learning Station, Hambran Road, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. Tiny tots were explained the working of charkha and spinning. With the help of teachers, students painted three monkeys of Gandhi. They were told not to hear, speak and listen to anything bad. Sweets were served to kids. The celebrations concluded with singing of Vande Matram. TNS

Anti-plastic rally at green grove

Green Grove School observed Gandhi Jayanti by taking a pledge to keep their school and surrounding neat and clean. Students of Class VIII to XII participated in a rally organised from the school campus to Khanna SSP’s office and GTB Market to make people aware of the harms of using plastic. The president of the school, JPS Jolly and principal Suzy George inspired students to follow the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi to become good citizens.

Peace march marks Gandhi Jayanti

Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Samrala, organised a peace march on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Principal Devinder Singh and NCC officer Vinod Kumar Rawal led the peace march. As many as 100 students of the school, NCC cadets and school staff participated in the march and made public aware about the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.

Annual art fest held

Annual art fest was organised at Om Parkash Bansal Modern School, Mandi Gobindgarh. The festival featured all facets of paintings and other art forms. Organised and directed by their teachers, students voluntarily contributed and created exquisite masterpieces using soft pastel, oil pastel, oil colours, charcoal and pencil shading. OC

Market promoting mental health

Ludhiana: The Government College for Girls organised “Happiness Market”, a unique endeavour to create awareness regarding mental health and significance of happiness in life. The event was organised by Dr Sukhwinder Kaur, in-charge, student counselling cell and student council. Principal Manju Sahni was the chief guest of the function. Various stalls, projecting unique ideas to stay happy, were set up on the college lawn. To relieve physical and mental stress of students, stalls of yoga and meditation were also set up. A speech competition on various aspects of mental health enthralled the audience. Report of the survey what make students happy and sad, conducted by students in September, were presented during the function. Students from various clubs and societies such as legal literacy cell, anti-drug cell, student counselling cell, multi-lingual society, Rotaract Club, Red Cross Society, NSS and Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle participated in the Happiness Market. Principal of the college applauded the efforts of students for making the event a big success. The vice-principal, Varinderjit Kaur, senior staff council and other staff members also attended the market.

Waste Management Campaign

In response to the Prime Minister’s call to action for plastic waste management, SCD Government College organised a campaign on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the campus. Principal Dharam Singh Sandhu said under the Swachchta Hi Sewa campaign, the NSS, NCC units and students of the college led the drive to make the campus free from plastic. “Gandhi, with his message of cleanliness and non-violence, is an inspiration for the youth and we should imbibe his principles,” he added. A pledge was administered to all students and faculty to boost the ban of plastic in their everyday life. Teachers delivered a lecture to generate awareness about the toxic effects of plastic on the health of the earth. The NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, students and teachers performed a “shramdaan” for collection and segregation of plastic waste in the institution. A poster competition was also organised on plastic waste-free India. The posters were displayed on the campus to spread the message of discontinuing single-use plastic and promoting conservation of water. TNS

Month-long yoga camp concludes

A month-long yoga camp organised by the department of physical education Arya College for Girls concluded. As many as 100 students took part in the camp and learnt various postures of yoga. Students were enlightened about the benefits of yoga in their daily life. 

College vows to shun plastic

The NSS unit of Malwa Central College of Education for Women, Civil Lines, organised a plastic-free India campaign under the Swachh Bharat Jan Andolan to make the campus plastic-free. The NSS volunteers and faculty members took an oath to shun plastic on the campus. OC
