Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today emphasised on promoting information technology along with qualitative education in universities.
Presiding over a meeting with Vice-Chancellors here, he said apart from creating a good academic environment in the universities, process of linking courses with employment should be started.
Reviewing the progress of the universities, he expressed satisfaction over their achievements and said he would visit all universities soon. “The standard of education in Himachal Pradesh is high and we are also moving forward in qualitative education,” he said.
He told the VCs to enhance the quality of education by working in coordination with other universities. “Awareness programmes against drug abuse should be organised at university level, which will positively affect students. Apart from the efforts being made by the government, we need to take appropriate steps to create a healthy educational environment at the university level,” he said.
Dattatreya said programmes should be organised for lectures of eminent persons at the university level. “The tourism industry is the main source of income of the state. So, tourism-based courses should be started so that the youth can get better employment opportunities,” the Governor said.
He said technical education was also of great importance for which industrial training institutes should be further strengthened and the subjects taught should be in accordance with the needs of the industry. He directed officials concerned to prepare a report for more technical support and cooperation from the Centre.
