Rohtang opens to tourists from June 1

KULLU: Kullu DC Yunus Khan said the tourist vehicles would be allowed up to Rohtang Pass from June 1.

Kullu DC Yunus Khan said the tourist vehicles would be allowed up to Rohtang Pass from June 1. The vehicles at present are being allowed till Marhi after obtaining online permits.

Yunus Khan said the BRO had opened the road between Manali and Keylong on May 19 but due to lack of parking facilities, the vehicles were only allowed till Marhi. The DC said now the BRO had broadened the road to enable parking of tourist vehicles at the Rohtang top.

The DC said now 1,300 vehicles would be sent daily to the Rohtang Pass as per the directions of the NGT. The NGT has provided directions that only 850 petrol vehicles and 450 diesel vehicles to go allowed to go beyond Gulaba barrier on the Manali-Rohtang road after payment of Rs 550.

The DC said summer season was at its peak and thousands of tourists were thronging Manali to witness snow in the Rohtang area. He said that tourists can obtain permits to cross the Gulaba barrier online. A time table had been prepared for plying vehicle till Rohtang and further to up to Lahaul to avoid traffic congestion.
