Players (boys and girls) continue to vie for honours in the ongoing activities, under the Tandarust Punjab mission, being organised by the Punjab Sports Department at various venues across the state.

Sportspersons showcased their skills at various coaching sub-centers of the department across Ludhiana district. The games are being conducted to encourage youngsters towards sports.

The playgrounds at the Guru Hargobind Khalsa College played hosts to the archery competition for boys and girls (U-19). Manpreet Singh proved too good for others and emerged victorious. Hardev and Anayat secured the second and third positions, respectively.

A football match for girls was also held at the college ground wherein Pakhowal XI prevailed over Mohi XI 2-1. At the Grewal Sports Association Stadium, Kila Raipur, hockey match in the boys’ section (U-17) was played, in which Grewal Hockey Association XI blanked Nankana Sahib Public School 3-0.

In the weightlifting competition held at the coaching sub-centre, Jarg village, five girls competed and Japleen Kaur performed well, whereas in the boys’ section, 11 players took part and Jasvir Singh proved his mettle to bag the top position.

Competition in discus throw and hammer throw was organised at Dashmesh Coaching Centre, Raikot. In the discus-throw event (boys), Luvpreet Singh, Inderpreet Singh and Dilawar Singh annexed the top three spots while in the hammer throw, Luvpreet Singh came out triumphant, followed by Inderpreet Singh and Arvinder Singh at the second and third place, respectively.

Likewise, in the discus throw in the girls’ section, Rupinder Kaur emerged winner. Harsimran Kaur secured the second position and Nisha Rani had to content with the third place.

In the handball (girls’ U-19) match, played at the Punjab Agricultural University campus ground, Khalsa College for Women got the better of Gurusar Sudhar 19-13.

Athletes (boys U-16) took part in the 100-metre sprint, in which Inderpreet Singh of Green Land Convent School, Civil City branch, finished well ahead of others.

Gaurav Kumar of SDP Senior Secondary School finished as the first runner-up and Gurmeet Singh of KVM, Civil Lines, secured the third position.

Besides, players along with coaches and other staff, cleaned their respective centers.
