Man arrested for stabbing

Ambala: The police have arrested Vishal, alias Vibhu, of Parav for stabbing and threatening a local resident with dire consequences. According to the police, Shailesh of Parav reported to the police on October 20 that the suspect had stabbed him and had threatened him with dire consequences on October 19. The suspect was produced before a court, which ordered to release him on bail, officials said. TNS

One held for drug smuggling

Ambala: The police have arrested Sanjeev Kumar, alias Billa, of Dera Bassi in Mohali in a case of smuggling drugs wherein 5.2 kg of poppy husk was recovered in April, officials said here on Saturday. According to the police, Karambeer, alias Kala, of Panchkula, Ashwani, alias Johny, of Shahzadpur near here and Rinku were caught on April 8 with 5.2 kg of poppy husk. During custodial interrogation, they revealed that Billa was also involved in the illegal business. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to four-day police custody, the officials said. TNS

PO lands in police net

Ambala: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender, Shamveer of Sonepat, who was wanted in a criminal case registered against him, officials said here on Saturday. According to the police, the suspect was booked in a criminal case in Shahzadpur near here. He was evading arrest following which a court 

had declared him a proclaimed offender. The fugitive will be produced before a court on Sunday, the officials said. TNS

Married woman goes missing

Ambala: A 40-year-old married woman reportedly went missing from her home, the police said here on Saturday. According to the police, Ramesh Kumar of Shahzadpur near here had reported to the police that his wife left home on October 23, but did not return yet. The police have lodged a missing report and launched a manhunt to trace the woman, the officials said. TNS

Daman-Akanshi in National final 

Chandigarh: City shuttlers Daman Rajkumar and Akanshi Baliyan won the Chandigarh leg of the Red Bull Shuttle Up qualifiers, held at the Sector 38 Sports Complex here on Saturday. In the final, Daman and Akanshi registered a 21-15 19-21 21-12 win over Ishita Kumar and Garmina Singh and qualified for the National Final, which is scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on December 8. Over 40 shuttlers participated in the Chandigarh leg of the championship --- an exclusive women's doubles tournament. Last year, Daman was a part of the team that led the Delhi leg of the qualifiers. PU wins gold in tennis, kho-kho 

Chandigarh: Panjab University men's tennis team have won the gold medal in the North-Zone Inter-University Tennis Championship, held at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science And Technology, Sonepat. The women's team claimed the silver medal. Panjab University men also claimed the gold medal in the North-Zone Inter-University Kho-Kho Championship. The tournament was  held at Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh. TNS
