Treatment plant for dyeing units to be operational by year end

LUDHIANA: The Focal Point Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for dyeing and printing industry is all set to become operational within next 4-5 months as Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal today formally launched the final stage of mechanical and electrical work of the 40 MLD (million litres/per day) capacity of plant of the Punjab Dyers Association (PDA) Focal Point module being set up at a cost of Rs 82 crore.

The Focal Point Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) for dyeing and printing industry is all set to become operational within next 4-5 months as Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Aggarwal today formally launched the final stage of mechanical and electrical work of the 40 MLD (million litres/per day) capacity of plant of the Punjab Dyers Association (PDA) Focal Point module being set up at a cost of Rs 82 crore.

Speaking at the occasion, Aggarwal said with the completion of the project expected by the end of this year, the environment in the city would become far better for public at large and the industry as a whole because it would become possible to contain pollution being caused by the dyeing and processing industry located in Focal Point Phase I to VIII.

Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) officials Sandeep Bahl, Paramjeet Singh and Varinder Singh, besides members of PDA and other officials were also present at the occasion.

Officials of Larsen and Toubro Limited, plant and machinery suppliers for the project, apprised the Punjab Pollution Control Board officials and the stakeholders with the progress till date and tentative schedule of the completion of the remaining work.

According to officials of the L&T, the CETP would be based on ‘sequential batch reactor (SBR) technology with technical appraisal from the Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana, and IIT Chenna. Located at Jamalpur Awana, near Central Jail, Ludhiana, the CETP would cater to the needs of 66 dyeing and printing units.

A PDA member Rahul Verma said the industry had spent around Rs 45 crore from its own pocket for the CETP project and disposal of treated effluent.
