1.5-kg heroin seized, 3 held

Amritsar, March 18

The police on Wednesday arrested three persons, including the wife of notorious smuggler Sonu Baba, and seized 1.5 kg of heroin from their possession. The suspects have been identified as Sadhgi, wife of Sonu and a resident of Kot Khalsa, Sohan Lal, a resident of Dhapai, and Manjit Singh, alias Mota, of Dadupura village in the Majitha area.

DCP (Detective) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Sukhwinder Singh of the CIA staff laid a checkpoint at Anngarh Ganda Nullah.

He said the police intercepted a bike and recovered 1-kg heroin from Sohan and Manjit. During the investigation, Manjit confessed that they bought the heroin at Sonu Baba’s place in Kot Khalsa.

The DCP added that thereafter, the police had set up a naka in the Kot Khalsa area and arrested the wife of Sonu Baba and recovered 500-gm heroin from her. However, Sonu managed to escape from the spot. Police officials said Sonu was involved in various smuggling cases. — TNS
