The Sadar police have booked at least 12 members of a marriage party for allegedly attempting to murder a guest from the bride’s side at a marriage palace in Jandali village, Sangrur district, on Saturday evening.

  • According to an FIR registered under section 307, 323, 324 and 34 of the IPC and the Arms Act, Jasvir Singh of Jandali Kalan, a veterinary inspector posted at Manak Heri village, was assaulted by a group of 12 persons during a wedding party at a marriage palace in Jandali village, near Mandi Ahmedgarh, on Saturday evening. One of the suspects, yet to be identified, opened fired at him.

Investigations revealed that the main suspect was being called by surname ‘Samra’ by his accomplices. The police are trying to establish his identity on the basis of pictures available with the complainant.

Station House Officer of Sadar police station Sanjiv Kapoor said the investigating team had been advised to speak with the parents and relatives of the groom to ascertain the identity of all suspects who had allegedly assaulted the complainant and made a futile attempt to shoot him. “Though no life was lost in the incident, we have taken the incident seriously,” said Kapoor.
