Celebrating 145 years of The Tribune
Beyond serious reportage, what truly hooked me were the lighter joys the paper brought — the famous ‘middles’, the crossword puzzle
Former Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa recounts his 60-year association with The Tribune, starting in 1967. He appreciates its coverage of Punjab, the military, and balanced reporting. He mentions personal milestones featured in the paper and praises its fairness, especially during his time as Vice Chief and post-Balakot airstrikes.
The author appreciates The Tribune for its truthful reporting, rooted in principles of restraint and independence. Key strengths include its trust-based ownership, focus on North India's challenges, and high-quality opinion pages, fostering balanced and nuanced perspectives. The paper promotes accountable opinions.
The author's connection with The Tribune began in childhood, evolving from sports pages to a love for diverse content like editorials and weekend supplements. Inspired by the paper, the author even published work. The author valued specific columnists and writers, and continued reading the paper online after moving, though the physical experience is missed.

My extensive association with The Tribune began when the late Prof Amrik Singh suggested that it was no good just keeping to the ivory towers of Oxford
The British Empire's decline began with its self-identification and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre (1919), stripping away its facade. The Tribune newspaper, facing censorship and closures during the independence movement and Partition, exemplified this shift. Despite adversity, the paper persevered, embodying 'upright' and 'fearless' journalism.
The lists identify editors and general managers. Key editors include Sitala Kanta Chatterjee, JC Bose, and Prem Bhatia. General managers listed are Lala Ram Chand, PL Sondhi, and Vir Sen Chopra, among others.
In 2012, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched VN Datta’s ‘The Tribune: A Witness to History'’ in Delhi, it seemed that the entire Tribune-reading Delhi elite was there, and no one wanted to leave
My association with The Tribune spans 50 years, and I look forward to celebrating every landmark
While conducting my research on the Akali movement, I discovered that The Tribune was the only dependable source that consistently covered the five-year-long struggle of the Akalis (1920-25)

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
