Celebrating 145 years of The Tribune

My extensive association with The Tribune began when the late Prof Amrik Singh suggested that it was no good just keeping to the ivory towers of Oxford

The British Empire's decline began with its self-identification and the Jallianwala Bagh massacre (1919), stripping away its facade. The Tribune newspaper, facing censorship and closures during the independence movement and Partition, exemplified this shift. Despite adversity, the paper persevered, embodying 'upright' and 'fearless' journalism.

The lists identify editors and general managers. Key editors include Sitala Kanta Chatterjee, JC Bose, and Prem Bhatia. General managers listed are Lala Ram Chand, PL Sondhi, and Vir Sen Chopra, among others.

In 2012, when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched VN Datta’s ‘The Tribune: A Witness to History'’ in Delhi, it seemed that the entire Tribune-reading Delhi elite was there, and no one wanted to leave
