35 trucks impounded for overloading, illegal mining

Faridabad, February 15

In a special overnight drive against overloaded vehicles and illegal mining, the authorities impounded 35 dumper trucks and slapped a fine of Rs 25 lakh.

Haryana Transport and Mining Minister Mool Chand Sharma supervised the operation conducted in the districts of Faridabad, Gurugram and Nuh between 8 pm last night and 4 am this morning.

Officials of the Transport Department claimed that the majority of the trucks or vehicles carrying mined material like stone and dust mainly from parts of Nuh and Rajasthan move in overloaded condition in gross violation of rules.

“Over 100 vehicles were checked at six points Sirohi, Sohna crossing, Pali, Dhauj, Tauru and Manesar. The police impounded as many as 35 of those,” said a senior official.

He said the NGT team accompanying them imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh for violation of norms. Three persons were also arrested as they failed to produce the documents regarding the material that they were carrying. Two private vehicles were also impounded.

Officials of the RTA, Mining and Police Departments from three districts took part in the operation that lasted for eight hours. At least three trucks carrying stones and construction material drove away after getting the material unloaded on the side of the road during the drive to escape action. Two of the vehicles belonged to a former police official, it is claimed.

Haryana Minister Mool Chand Sharma who visited some of the spots said that the drive was aimed at curbing overloading and illegal mining. Admitting that overloading and plying of illegal vehicles engaged in commercial activities had become a major menace, he said that regular drives would be carried out to curb it. Sharma had also visited the Yamuna river area in the district on Friday evening and directed the officials to curb overloading and illegal mining.
