38 city schools with expired affiliation on CBSE website

Going by the advice of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), parents will find 38-odd schools, including some government schools, with expired affiliation on the board’s official website.

Last week, the board released a public notice alerting parents to check the affiliation status of schools enrolling their kids and look out for false claims such as “to be affiliated to the CBSE”, “CBSE pattern” or “likely to be affiliated to the CBSE”.

The board has advised parents who wish to admit their ward(s) to the CBSE-affiliated schools to check the affiliation status (including up to what class the affiliation is given by the board) of a school.

However, several schools on the list of expired affiliation claim that they have paid the affiliation fee for extension, but the board’s website is never updated.

The public notice reads: “Parents may go through the CBSE-affiliation website —www.cbseaff.nic.in — which has the link to region-wise/state-wise list of affiliated schools and the same also contains a list of disaffiliated schools. In case of any further clarification, the regional office of the board may be contacted.”

It had come to the notice of the Central Board of Secondary Education that some of the non-affiliated schools, whose application is either under process, rejected by the board or have not applied for affiliation at all, are misleading parents by displaying various display boards at schools, prominent locations and on website by showing messages such as “to be affiliated to the CBSE”, “CBSE pattern”, “likely to be affiliated to the CBSE,” and “running under the aegis of the CBSE”.

The board said as per clause 14.2.2 of its Affiliation Bylaws, 2018, the board does not allow non-affiliated school to present the candidates to the board’s examination.

“The Central Board of Secondary Education is the premier national board, under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The core mandate of the CBSE is to conduct board examinations and for this purpose, the CBSE grants affiliation to schools,” read the public notice from the CBSE.

Why it is important

Affiliation is granted to schools on fulfilment of mandatory conditions as laid down in the Affiliation Bylaws of the board. In case of non-fulfilment of conditions, the application of schools for affiliation stand rejected and the schools are not allowed to enrol students for board examinations.
